Best Value For Money Driver

You will benefit from the draw-biased setup of this driver, which will prevent slices. In addition to offering excellent forgiveness, it offers excellent distance as well. It is necessary to consider this driver if you wish to drive straighter.

Rating

With years of experience in driver production, TaylorMade leads the golf industry.  There is no doubt that they are the most popular driver on all major tours.  You can expect to find more than one TaylorMade driver in a foursome if you play in one.

In this review, we take a look at the TaylorMade SIM 2 Max driver.

Due to the forgiving nature of SIM2 drivers and their versatility with the three models, there is value to be had for golfers who have used SIM for some time. However, golfers who already own SIM are unlikely to benefit from significant performance improvements.

In combination with the SIM2 Max driver’s cutting-edge technology and high-performance potential, the SIM2 Max boasts a heavier tungsten weight for a better launch, spin, and forgiveness.

Key Features Sim 2 Max Driver

As with the regular SIM2, the SIM2 Max leverages the following features and technologies:

Forged Ring Construction: This club is made from lightweight, high-strength aluminum to increase forgiveness and reduce weight.

Split Mass Weighting: Incorporating a 24g tungsten weight in the rear and a TPS weight in the sole, allows for precise custom weighting, increased forgiveness, and optimal spin properties.

Asymmetric Inertia Generator: For greater stability, the CG is shifted back to increase aerodynamic club head speed.

Speed-Injected Twist Face: A Twist Face that corrects off-center hits is injected with injections that accelerate the speed of the face (COR).

Thru-Slot Speed Pocket: Increased sole flexibility leads to greater ball speed and forgiveness low on the face thanks to the most flexible Speed Pocket design yet.

Product Specs & Stock Info

With SIM2 Max, you can choose from 9°, 10.5°, or 12° lofts at 460CC. Sadly, left-handed golfers are not able to choose the high-loft variant, so they’ll have to use a lower loft and a loft sleeve to adjust up.

Loft, lie, and face angles can all be adjusted with the loft sleeve included. The loft and lie angles can be increased or decreased by 2° and 4°, respectively, using the 12 possible sleeve variations.

Looks: SIM 2 Max Driver

TaylorMade has established a signature look over the last few generations of drivers. No matter whether or not the logo is present, the carbon crown with a contrasting color ribbon is instantly recognizable as TM. In my opinion, the SIM2 Max is one of their best versions of this look.

SIM2 Max’s front and back sides are longer, while its face is shallower, compared to SIM2 [review HERE]. There is a noticeable difference between drivers when they are next to each other, even though these differences aren’t huge.

Despite its ‘MAX’ branding underneath the SIM2 branding, the SIM2 Max looks identical to the SIM2. There is a slight shift in the weight of the SIM2 Max towards the heel for those with a keen eye.

The Sound & Feel

In spite of better results in those face regions, off-center strikes don’t feel quite as different as the SIM2. As a result, I have no complaints, as the SIM2 line is already on a different level of forgiveness than the original SIM.

There is a nice, satisfying “crack” at impact, which makes the SIM2 Max feel almost identical to the SIM2: very solid and powerful.

I also noticed that the sound is similar, though there are greater differences between the sweet spot and off-center areas than on the SIM2. As a GI driver, you get quite good feedback for this, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Driver Performance

Distance

It was noticeable that I was getting a couple of extra mph out of the SIM2 Max driver (as well as other SIM2 drivers). A unique design called the Inertia Generator promotes improved aerodynamics in the swing, and this is no doubt the reason for this.

The result will be higher ball speeds and more distance than usual.

Apart from that, the ball speed numbers I was getting were very similar to those of SIM2. As a result, the SIM Max has slightly faster ball speeds than the SIM.

According to my testing, the SIM2 Max launches higher with more spin. In terms of distance, the SIM2 gave me about five yards more than I got with my swing speed.

There is basically no difference between the SIM2 and SIM3 in terms of ball speed potential. On the other hand, the SIM2 Max is slightly more accurate in mis-hit areas.

Forgiveness

In comparison to the SIM2, the SIM2 Max looks much more forgiving at this point. In my testing, I found this to be true.

As a result, with SIM2 Max, my mis-hits are more likely to stay in the fairway. The distance results are more comparable to solid strikes.

The forgiveness is better than the SIM Max, but how does it compare? Many people claim that there has been no improvement, but I strongly disagree.

I noted in my review of the SIM Max that the driver did not appear to be more forgiving than the M6. It is clear that TaylorMade has closed the gap with the SIM2 Max, which, in a nutshell, is the most forgiving driver out there today.

Playability/Trajectory

It has been reported that the SIM2 Max driver produces an additional 200-300 rpm of spin than the SIM2. I found 2800 rpm to be quite accurate during my tests.

Due to the combination of stock shaft options and a neutral shot shape, I was getting a rather highball flight. You can depend on the ball flight being consistent and dependable.

Obviously, your golf club swing will significantly influence the height and shape of your ball flight. You still have the option of changing your shaft or using a loft sleeve if you are not entirely satisfied with the performance.

You can still shape shots with the SIM2 Max, although it is less workable than the SIM2. It would help if you didn’t have any difficulty making shots with the SIM2 Max unless you need to create some serious curves off the tee.

Conclusion:

TaylorMade is a leader in the driver game. As evidenced by their widespread popularity, they have been doing so for years.

It is important to note that despite the fact that the Sim2 family of drivers is similar to that of the original Sim family in many respects, the different materials used in the construction of these clubs have resulted in better performance for all three teams.

Take a test drive of a Sim2 driver if you’re seeking an upgrade to your current driver.
